About us

We are a Dutch family of four visiting Shenzhen from 3–14 July 2026. We are staying at the Four Points by Sheraton Bao'an (No 70 Baomin 1st Road, Bao'an). Our son Luka is on a robotics internship in Bao'an and has been living there since early 2026 — he will join us on some days but is at work on your guide days.

We have been to Asia many times and lived in Kuala Lumpur for 4 years. We are not first-time tourists — we prefer local, off the beaten track experiences, real food, and avoiding big tourist crowds. We are happy to start early to beat the crowds and heat.

Janine (mother) is pescetarian — she does not eat meat but does eat fish and shellfish. The rest of us eat everything. Samuel enjoys spicy food.

We are currently suggesting Mon 6 Jul, Tue 7 Jul, and Wed 8 Jul as guide days, but please treat these as a starting point rather than fixed dates. We are very open to moving them around, splitting them up, or changing the order — whatever works best for you and for the shape of the trip as it evolves. We will meet you at the hotel on each day and will confirm the final dates with you well in advance.

Your fee is RMB 1,200 per 8 hours, plus RMB 160 per additional hour. The time spent on advising us for the planning is not included in these fees and will be paid separately.

1
Availability — 3 guide days Please confirm you are available for all three days: Mon 6 Jul (Nantou + OCT Loft), Tue 7 Jul (Nanshan full day), Wed 8 Jul (Dapeng full day).
2
Transfer from Hong Kong Airport — 3 July We arrive HKG on 3 July at 15h25 (KL887) with a family of 4 and a lot of luggage. We will be tired after a long flight, so the easiest and most comfortable transfer to the hotel is the priority. We understand the ferry from HKIA Sky Pier direct to Shekou could be a good option — can you advise on the best way to get to our hotel, with options and pricing?
3
Tea ceremony — morning of Tue 7 Jul Please arrange a private tea ceremony or good teahouse visit for 4 people on the morning of Tue 7 Jul (~3 hours). Private is preferred.
4
Hot pot restaurant — evening of Tue 7 Jul Please recommend and book a specific great hot pot restaurant in Nanshan for the evening of Tue 7 Jul. Janine eats no meat — fish and shellfish are fine. Quality over brand name.
5
Dapeng transport + lunch — Wed 8 Jul Please arrange transport from our hotel to Dapeng and back (we want to leave by 08h00). Also recommend a specific good local seafood lunch spot near Dapeng Fortress.
6
Spiral bookshop — location? We have heard about a notable bookshop in Shenzhen with a spiral or architecturally interesting bookshelf. Do you know where this is? Could we visit it on Mon 6 Jul in the OCT/Nantou area?
7
Exoskeleton walk — where? We saw a reference to walking or hiking with an exoskeleton in Shenzhen. Do you know where this experience is offered and can we fit it in?
8
Huaqianbei tips — before the trip We are visiting Huaqianbei electronics market on Thu 9 Jul without you. Please send us a WhatsApp message before the trip with the best buildings and floors for: gadgets, robot dogs, tech toys, and interesting finds. No need to be there in person.
